Tips for Flying with Food
We all know that flying regulations have changed over the years to what you can carry and pack in your luggage. At Destin – Fort Walton Beach Airport, we want to make sure you are prepared BEFORE you leave for your trip.
Here are some of the more common liquids, aerosols and gel items that you should put in your checked bag, ship ahead to your destination or leave at home if above the permitted 3.4 ounces.
Creamy dips and spreads (cheeses, peanut butter, etc.)
Gift baskets with food items(salsa, jams, salad dressings)
Oils and vinegars
Wine, liquor and beer
Pies and cakes are permitted as a carry on, but be prepared that they are likely to be searched. Wrapped gifts, especially on the way to your destination, are very common this time of year. We suggest wrapping them at your destination, or even shipping them ahead of you directly. If you must bring a wrapped gift through the checkpoint, a TSA officer may have to upwrap the gift to take a closer look.
Dozer the therapy dog is a regular visitor at VPS. He greets hundreds of passengers every month and sees to it everyone has a smile on their face. Therapy dogs are friendly, loving canines who have undergone intensive training to work closely with humans in public places. Their purpose is to provide affection and comfort, and improve the life of others. You’ll find therapy dogs in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, libraries and right here at VPS.
Flying with your dogs? We love them at VPS!
VPS is the only pet friendly airport in the region. There is a convenient pet relief area located between the parking lot and the terminal where you can bring your pet before and after flights.
